THE RACE

The Dordt College women’s cross country team saw its string of GPAC Championships stopped at four on Saturday, November 5 in Hastings, Nebraska.  The Defenders were edged narrowly by the Morningside Mustangs for the team title with by a 56-59 margin and the Defenders were eight points clear of third place Hastings in the team race.

NOTES

-95 runners and 11 teams made up the GPAC field.

-The race was a 5,000 meter course.

-Marissa DeWispelaire from Doane won her second straight GPAC title in 17:38.

-Morningside had runners in 2nd and 3rd.

-Knevelbaard was a second out of 6th place.

-Dordt’s pack was tight with 1-5 separated by 28 seconds.

-Top-15 finishers earn all-GPAC honors. Douma claims all-GPAC honors for a third straight year.

-Morningside earns the automatic berth to the NAIA Championships on Saturday, November 19.  Dordt awaits a potential at-large berth which will be announced Monday, November 7 by the NAIA.
