Dordt College’s Sam Wensink (Junior; Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin) finished seventh in the unseeded university/college division 800 meter race on Thursday afternoon, April 28 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wensink ran a 1:52.29 in the event with the winner, Donson Cook-Gallardo clocking a 1:50.87 in the 14 man field.

Wensink met the automatic qualification standard for the NAIA National Championship meet in late May with the performance, making it under the needed time of 1:52.50.

Dordt’s competition at the Drake Relays continues on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30 with the following schedule:

Coach Craig Heynen Said....“Sam ran a great race in a very competitive field.  This will be great experience for him for the c championship season.  He ran right with the pack the whole way and got shuffled to the back on the first lap, but finished very strong.  His time is excellent for this point of the season.”
