Dordt defeats Morningside 82-75
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender built a double-digit first half lead and then held on as the no. 8 ranked Morningside Mustangs charged back in the second half. Dordt held on to win by seven for their fourth win in five games and knocked off a ranked opponent for the second time this season.
Dordt took the lead 5-2 on a Paige Engbers three-point basket just under two minutes into the game and the Defenders built that advantage into a 14 point first quarter leading, closing the stanza with a Shae Pollema basket and an Annie Rhinesmith three-point basket.
The lead grew to 34-15 on a Kim Kroeze basket with 3:58 left in the half and the Defenders settled for a 14 point lead at halftime.

The Mustangs started the final quarter by scoring nine unanswered and led 60-59 with 7:48 remaining. Kim Kroeze was fouled on the next possession and got the shot to go and completed the three-point play and the Defenders never trailed again.
Annie Rhinesmith knocked down a three-point shot with 6:52 left for a 65-50 lead and Morningside got to within 72-70 with 2:57 left but a Jamie Gesink basket pushed the Defenders up four and the lead was never less than four the rest of the game as Dordt went on to win 82-75.

COACH DEWITT-SEVERSON SAID
“The girls are having a lot of fun playing right now. I thought we started playing well against Morningside the first time we played them and just had to clean some things up. Even though it wasn’t the prettiest game tonight we came out and made shots and played with the home crowd behind us and we had a lot of fun. Not only do they (Morningside) have a good defense they’ve got a high powered offense. They can hit threes and in clumps. We built that lead and even when they made their runs we were able to stay comfortable and stay composed.”
