Dordt defeats Mayville State 72-47
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mayville State scored the first four points of the game but the Defenders hit back to back three-point baskets to take a 6-4 lead just over three minutes into the game and rolled to a 71-47 win over the Comets in non-conference basketball on Friday night.
The Defenders gradually built the lead to 17-12 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Defenders build the lead from 28-22 to 34-22 at halftime on back to back three-point baskets by Paige Engbers.
The lead quickly grew to 20 in the second half and the Comets never put together a charge in falling behind by as many as 30 before Dordt settled for the 25 point win.
-Paige Engbers converted a school-record eight three-point baskets on the way to a game high 26 points. Engbers had shared the record with Serena Van Beek with seven.
-Dordt made 11-32 three-point baskets and 28-71 field goals. Dordt had a 57-40 rebounding advantage.
-Mayville State converted 18-60 field goals for 30 percent success.
-Shae Pollema had 10 points and nine rebounds for Dordt and Annie Rhinesmith had nine points and five assists.
-Rachel Evavold had seven points and eight rebounds and Kim Kroeze had six points, seven rebounds and four assists.
-Dordt is 2-0 and will host Jamestown on Saturday at 4:00.
