Northwestern defeats Dordt 83-78
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Dordt 83-78 in a game played in Orange City on Wednesday night, November 30 in men’s GPAC basketball.
Dordt trailed early but came back from a 16-9 deficit to lead 22-21 on a Marcus Winterfeld basket with 9:20 left in the first half. The lead eventually built to 12 as Winterfeld hit a three-point shot with 2:57 left and Dordt was up 43-36 at halftime.
Northwestern tied the score with 16:43 left in the game but Dordt answered and built the lead back to 61-54 with Winterfeld hitting one of his six three-point baskets. Chad Barkema added a basket and Dordt was up 67-57 with 11:13 left in the game.
A 10-0 run by Northwestern followed and the hosts tied the score at 67 before an Alex Terpstra three-point shot put Dordt back in front 70-67. It was Dordt’s last lead. Chris Borchers hit a three-pointer for Northwestern to tie the score and Colton Kooima followed with five straight points on a three and a two.
Dalton Franken made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 79-78 but a Jordan Baker basket for Northwestern put the Raiders up 81-78. Dordt had two three-point attempts to tie the game but missed both and Northwestern sealed the game with a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to make the final 83-78.
-Dordt was 31-70 shooting and 11-27 from the three-point line. Northwestern was 31-67 from the field and 10-25 from the arc. Dordt converted 5-8 free throws to 11-16 for Northwestern.
-Dordt had a 40-39 rebounding edge and Northwestern had 13 turnovers to 12 for the Defenders.
-Winterfeld had 22 points and six rebounds with two assists. Alec Henrickson had 20 points and five rebounds.
-Leighton Sampson added 16 points with six rebounds and Dalton Franken had 10 points and five rebounds. Andrew O’Donnell grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists.
-Colton Kooima scored 29 for Northwestern on 9-26 shooting. Riley Francis had 15 points.
-Dordt is 6-6 this season and 0-3 in the GPAC while Northwestern is 5-0 and 11-1.
-Dordt travels to Hastings on Saturday, December 3.
