Dakota Wesleyan defeats Dordt 118-111 overtime



Dakota Wesleyan hit a three-point basket near the end of regulation to force overtime and held off Dordt in overtime 118-11.

Dordt battled back from a 45-40 halftime deficit to take a an 86-80 lead with a six point run on a three-point basket by Alex Terpstra and a two point bucket and free throw by Andrew O’Donnell with 5:14 left in the game. 

Five unanswered by the Tigers cut the gap to 86-85.  Dordt maintained a slim lead until Ty Hoglund hit a three-point basket to tie it at 90-90.  The score was tied again at 92 and Wesleyan led 94-92 when Alex Terpstra knocked down a three-point shot with :57 left in the game.  After a defensive stop the Defenders took a three-point lead on a lay up by Alec Henrickson.

Wesleyan answered with a three-point basket by Jason Spicer to tie the game at 97-97 and forced overtime after Dordt was unable to convert on a length of the court play.

Collin Kramer started the overtime scoring for Wesleyan the Dordt was fighting from behind the entire extra session and fell 118-111.



-Dordt was 44-87 from the field and 9-23 on three-point shots and 14-23 from the free throw line.

-Wesleyan was 35-70 from the field and 12-30 from the three-point line and 36-44 from the free throw line.

-Dalton Franken led Dordt with 34 points and 12 rebounds with three assists.

-Alec Henrickson scored 24 and had two assists and two steals and was 5-9 from the three-point line.

-Andrew O’Donnell and Leighton Sampson each had 14 points and Alex Terpstra scored 11.  O’Donnell also had seven rebounds and six assists.

-Wesleyan was led by Jason Spicer with 29 points and Nate Davis had 24.  Ty Hoglund scored 25 and Tate Martin had 15 points and 15 rebounds.  Collin Kramer came off the bench to score 12 and grab 14 rebounds.

-Wesleyan had a 52-40 rebounding edge.

-Franken entered the game with 974 points and becomes the 36th player in Dordt history to score at least 1,000 points.

-Dordt is now 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the GPAC while Dakota Wesleyan is 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

-Dordt hosts Briar Cliff on Tuesday, November 22 in GPAC play.
