Viterbo defeats Dordt 79-68
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College Defender men’s basketball team lost a 79-68 decision to Viterbo in men’s college basketball on Friday afternoon in Orange City, Iowa in a classic hosted by Northwestern.
The first half was tight the entire way with neither team leading by more than four and Dordt was up 32-31 at halftime. The first half featured nine ties.
A three-pointer by the Defenders opened the scoring and Taylor Feenstra added a two-point field goal and Dordt had their biggest lead of the game at 37-31. Back to back three point baskets by Viterbo tied the game and the V-Hawks took the lead 39-38 with 16:41 left in the game.
Viterbo led by as many as five and Dordt stayed within striking distance and Leighton Sampson got a basket and free throw to narrow it to 60-59 with 4:57 left in the game. Viterbo followed with five points in a row and Dordt got no closer than three the rest of the game before falling by 11.
-Dordt was limited to 18-53 shooting for 34 percent while Viterbo was 25-56 for 45 percent success.
-Dordt got to the free throw line 39 times and made 25. Dordt was outrebounded 45-38.
-Alec Henrickson had 15 points and Marcus Winterfeld added 12.
-Leighton Sampson came off the bench to score 10.
-Andrew O’Donnell and Dalton Franken each had six rebounds.
-Viterbo was topped by Jake Bamke’s 22 points and Ethan Haberman had 16.
-Dordt is 4-2 this season and Viterbo is now 2-0. Dordt will face Oak Hills Christian on Saturday at 1:00.
