HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt College volleyball team turned away no. 9 Grand View in the Pool H Championship match at the NAIA National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday .

The Defenders looked tentative in set one and lost a 25-18 decision to the Vikings.  Grand View controlled much of the set and pulled away from a 16-14 difference as Elizabeth Kiel had a kill to close the gap.  After the timeout the Vikings scored five of the next six points to establish control.

Set two featured seven ties to 14-14 before Grand View pushed ahead 18-15.  Haley Moss put away a kill and a setting error got Dordt to within 18-17.  A Kiel kill tied it and an attack error by the Vikings gave Dordt the lead.  Grand View tied the score at 20, 21, 22 and 23.  Granstra had the kill to tie the set and Ema Altena followed with an ace serve.  Another service ace by Altena finished the set.

Grand View seemed to recover and led set three 5-4 but Dordt reeled off seven in a row and Grand View got no closer than six the rest of the set and Dordt took it with a commanding 25-12 final.

The momentum carried over into set four as the Defenders ran out to a 9-2 lead and the Vikings got no closer than four in taking the 25-14 win.
