Dordt defeats Grand View 3-0 (18-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-14)



The Dordt College volleyball team turned away no. 9 Grand View in the Pool H Championship match at the NAIA National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday .

The Defenders looked tentative in set one and lost a 25-18 decision to the Vikings.  Grand View controlled much of the set and pulled away from a 16-14 difference as Elizabeth Kiel had a kill to close the gap.  After the timeout the Vikings scored five of the next six points to establish control.

Set two featured seven ties to 14-14 before Grand View pushed ahead 18-15.  Haley Moss put away a kill and a setting error got Dordt to within 18-17.  A Kiel kill tied it and an attack error by the Vikings gave Dordt the lead.  Grand View tied the score at 20, 21, 22 and 23.  Granstra had the kill to tie the set and Ema Altena followed with an ace serve.  Another service ace by Altena finished the set.

Grand View seemed to recover and led set three 5-4 but Dordt reeled off seven in a row and Grand View got no closer than six the rest of the set and Dordt took it with a commanding 25-12 final.

The momentum carried over into set four as the Defenders ran out to a 9-2 lead and the Vikings got no closer than four in taking the 25-14 win.



-Dordt ended the match with a .346 kill efficiency and had just ten errors in 130 attacks with 55 kills.

-Grand View had 46 kills and 20 errors with 130 attacks and a .200 kill efficiency.

-Ema Altena had 18 kills and three service aces.

-Brooke Granstra had 12 kills and nine digs and Haley Moss had ten kills.

-Jamie Gesink had 44 assists and 12 digs.

-Summer Jansen had two ace serves and a team high 19 digs.

-Taylor Wells and Erin Wenzel had 15 kills each to lead Grand View.

-Dordt hit .444 in set three and .458 in set four.  The Defenders limited Grand View to .057 and .091 kill efficiencies in sets three and four.



Dordt is 25-7 and finished pool play with a 3-0 record and will advance to the 16-team elimination bracket portion of the NAIA Championship.  Dordt will face Corban (Oregon) on Friday morning at 9:00 AM.
