Dordt defeats Morningside 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College came from behind in each of its three sets in its sweep win over the Morningside Mustangs in GPAC Quarterfinal round play at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center on Tuesday night.
Set one started with Dordt getting out to an 11-6 lead with six points in a row but the Mustangs rebounded to tie the score 12-12 and led 15-13 on another three point run. Dordt battled to even it at 16-16 on back to back Brooke Granstra kills and Dordt had to overcome another 19-17 deficit. Two kills by Haley Moss and a Granstra kill put Dordt up 20-19 but back to back points by the Mustangs swung it into Morningside’s favor again. Moss got another kill and Elizabeth Kiel added kill for a Dordt lead and the Defenders eventually won it on a Jamie Gesink kill and a Ema Altena kill for a 25-23 lead.
Morningside rebounded and built a 23-19 lead in set two. Dordt got a kill from Ema Altena followed by a Altena and Kiel block to make it 23-21. An attack error by the Mustangs got the score to 23-22 and after a timeout a block for the Defenders tied the set and then it was Altena giving Dordt a 24-23 lead with a kill and the sophomore from Sioux Center put a block up for a 25-23 win.
Morningside got a 10-5 lead but the Defenders pushed back for a 19-14 lead and the Defenders won the set 25-16.
-Brooke Granstra had 12 kills and eight digs.
-Ema Altena had 11 kills and Haley Moss had ten.
-Jamie Gesink had 39 assists and 14 digs.
-Dordt had four ace serves and Morningside had five.
-Morningside had eight points on blocks and Dordt had seven.
-Dordt had a .252 kill efficiency while Morningside hit for a.109 kill efficiency.
-Dordt is now 22-6 this season and will face Midland in the GPAC Semifinals on Thursday night at 7:30.
