The Dordt College Defender volleyball team beat Mount Marty on Wednesday night in Yankton, South Dakota by a 3-0 count and stayed in third place in the GPAC race with one match remaining.

Dordt controlled sets one and three but struggled to put away the pesky Lancers in set two but eventually pulled away from a late tie to win the set.

Dordt used a five point run to go from leading 10-9 to up 15-9 in set one won by an eventual 25-15 margin.

Set two saw the Lancers build a 9-5 lead before three straight attack errors and a Julia Lindbergh ace tied the set 9-9.  The set was tied at every break through 16-16 with Dordt eventually taking a 17-16 lead on another attack error and Lindbergh put in another ace serve for a two point lead.  Dordt eventually won it with three straight points as Jamie Gesink started the run with a block and Ema Altena and Brooke Granstra teamed up for another block.  Aubrey Drake’s ace serve finished it 25-18.

The Defenders took the suspense out of set three early as Dordt got up 11-1 and went on to win 25-11.



-Dordt hit for a .250 kill efficiency and Mount Marty hit .009 with 23 kills against 22 errors.  Dordt had 41 kills and 13 errors.

-Dordt got eight points on blocks and Mount Marty got one.

-Brooke Granstra led the Defenders with 14 kills and Ema Altena had 10 kills.

-Jamie Gesink had 27 assists and seven digs. 

-Aubrey Drake recorded 13 digs and Jill Schouten had nine.

-Mount Marty’s Sierra Kloth had ten kills to lead the Lancers.

-Dordt is now 20-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference.  Mount Marty is 7-22 overall and 0-15 in the GPAC.
