Dordt defeats Jamestown 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt stayed in control most of its match with Jamestown on Thursday evening at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center and earned a non-conference win over the Jimmies 3-0.
Dordt started well with an 11-5 lead in set one only to have the Jimmies come back to tie the set at 13-13 with three straight Dordt attack errors allowing the Jimmies to put the pressure on. The two teams were tied at 14 and 15 before Dordt scored three in a row on a kill by Julia Lindbergh and a pair of ball handling errors. Jamestown again rebounded to tie the score at 21-21 and knotted it again at 22-22. An Altena kill put the Defenders up for good and Brooke Granstra finished the set with a kill for a 25-23 win.
Dordt raced to an 11-2 lead in set two and the Jimmies never recovered as the Defenders led by no less than three the rest of the set and closed the set with a five point run and Haley Moss punctuated the run with a kill.
Jamestown led for the first time at the start of set three and was up 3-2 until a service error, an attack error and a Haley Moss and Elizabeth Kiel block put Dordt up 5-3 and Dordt never trailed again. Dordt had the set under wraps 23-18 after a Julia Lindbergh kill but Jamestown rallied to tie it 23-23. A Granstra kill put Dordt up 24-23 and an attack error by the Jimmies ended it, giving Dordt the 3-0 win.
-The match featured 12 ties and on lead change. Jamestown never led by more than one point.
-Brooke Granstra had 16 kills against two errors on 33 attempts for a .424 kill efficiency.
-Jamie Gesink put up 34 assists with ten digs.
-Ema Altena and Haley Moss each had nine kills and Julia Lindbergh had five kills and three service aces.
-Jill Schouten had a match high 14 digs.
-Jamestown’s Morgan Hensch had ten kills and the Jimmies had a team kill efficiency of .156.
-Dordt is 19-5 overall while Jamestown is 19-10.
-Dordt faces Doane on Saturday, October 29 in GPAC play while Jamestown will face Bellevue on Friday, October 28 in North Star Conference play.
