Dordt def. Baker 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-22)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt controlled from start to finish in putting away Baker (Iowa) in the final match of the weekend for both teams at the Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa.
The Defenders won sets one and two with little drama 25-16 and 25-13. Set three was much tighter with Baker coming back to tie the set at 16-16 after trailing 14-9. Baker led briefly 21-20 after an attack error but a kill by Elizabeth Kiel tied it. Baker again led 22-21 and 23-22 but Brooke Granstra got a kill to even it 23-23 and an attack error put the Defenders up 24-23 and Granstra concluded the set with a kill for the final of 25-23.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Dordt had a .317 kill efficiency to .105 for Baker.
-Dordt had six points on blocks and Baker had three.
-The Defenders enjoyed a 5-2 ace serve advantage.
-Brooke Granstra had 16 kills and had a .424 kill efficiency.
-Ema Altena had 10 kills with one error and 20 attacks for a .450 kill efficiency.
-Elizabeth Kiel put down eight kills and Jamie Gesink had 33 assists.
-Summer Jansen had 11 digs and Jill Schouten had 10.
-Gesink led the team with two service aces.
-Dordt is 3-1 and Baker 1-3. Dordt will play in the Bellevue Classic on Friday and Saturday, September 2 and 3.

“The Baker match was a different tempo and style of play for us as we were in the lead for many sequences of it. We continue to improve in many areas of our play which is exciting to see. It was also great to have several additional players get into the match in the second set.”
