Northwestern def. Dordt 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders survived an initial attack by Northwestern in their women’s soccer contest but surrendered two quick goals after tying the game in the second half to lose 3-1 on a cool and breezy afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Northwestern attacked quickly with a goal in the third minute by Sarah Homan but the Defenders recovered and got to halftime down 1-0.
Kenzie Bousema’s unassisted goal in the 60th minute tied the game but Northwestern had a quick response, scoring on a Madeline Swift goal in the 61st minute and then Tatiana Garcia scored less than a minute later to extend the lead to 3-1 and Dordt never got the offense going against a Northwestern team that had not surrendered a goal in conference play before the October 12 contest.
Dordt was outshot overall 16-12 and on goal 8-6.
Dee Felts had five saves for the Defenders.
Both teams had a corner kick.
Bousema’s goal was her sixth of the season.
Dordt is 2-3 in the GPAC and 6-6-1 overall while Northwestern improves to 5-0 in the GPAC and 9-4 overall.
Dordt will host Concordia on Saturday at 1:00.
