Dordt tied Presentation 4-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt needed to two late goals to force a tie with the Presentation Saints in women’s soccer on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Dordt allowed two goals in the 10th and 25th minutes before Natalie Sakuma netted a goal in the 43rd minute to make the score 2-1 at halftime.
Presentation built the lead to 3-1 early in the second half when Bobbye Pendleton scored her second goal of the game. Raquelle Mouw kept the scoring close with a goal off an assist by Sakuma in the 81st minute.
Down 3-2 the Defenders couldn’t hold off Presentation’s Brittney Cusick as she found the net for the second time for a 4-2 lead with just under six minutes to play.
Sakuma got Dordt within striking distance with her second goal off a rebound and Mouw scored the equalizer on a wind aided crossing shot that bent into the goal.
Both teams had 13 shots with Dordt holding a 10-8 shots on goal advantage.
Sakuma and Mouw each had two goals for the Defenders.
Dee Felts had four saves as the Defenders are now 1-2-1.
Allison Johnston had six saves.
The game did not go to overtimes as the teams settled for a draw.
Dordt faces Tabor next Saturday, September 10.
Presentation is 0-3-1 this season.
