Mount Mercy defeats Dordt 8-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mount Mercy controlled play from the start in taking an 8-2 non-conference soccer win over the Dordt Defenders in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, August 27.
Mount Mercy scored in the ninth minute and then tacked on goals in the 26th, 27th and 37th minutes to lead 4-0 at halftime.
The lead grew to 5-0 before Natalie Sakuma scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute. Mount Mercy’s Carly Walker scored her third and fourth goals of the game to stretch the difference to 7-1 and the Defenders made the final 8-2 when Anna Boer scored in the 88th minute.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Both Sakuma’s and Boer’s goals were unassisted.
-Dordt was outshot on goal 19-8.
-Deianira Felts made 10 saves in goal for Dordt.
-Dordt is 0-1 and will face Grace (Nebraska) on Tuesday, August 30. Mount Mercy is 1-0.

"The score is not indicative of the level of play. We possessed the ball for much of the game but they capitalized on their scoring opportunities. This is a game we needed to help us assess our group. Now we know what needs immediate attention."
