HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defenders were unable to take a split with St. Cloud State on Saturday, February 27 in game two of the doubleheader.  Dordt dropped the 2-1 decision on an unseasonably warm early season game.

The Huskies scored one run in the second inning with Dordt evening the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth with a Jake Thayer homerun to lead off the frame.  Ted Steffel singled in the same inning with two outs but was caught stealing to end the frame.

St. Cloud State wasted no time in taking the lead back with a run on three hits in the bottom half of the fourth.  Dordt starter Michael Grady was able to avert the big inning when he coaxed a grounder to end the inning with runners at the corners.

Dordt threatened in the eighth inning but had the tying run cut down at third base on a sacrifice bunt attempt and Dordt threatened again in the top of the ninth with a pair of hits but Jake Thayer was caught in a rundown in between second and third to end the frame.
