St. Cloud State defeats Dordt 5-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt was unable to overtake St. Cloud State in non-conference baseball play on Saturday, February 27 in non-conference baseball at Minnetonka, Minnesota.
St. Cloud State got on the board with three runs on two hits with an error and stranded two in the fourth inning and then tacked on another run on a hit in the sixth inning. The Huskies added another run in the ninth inning for a 5-0 lead.
Dordt averted the shutout in the home half of the ninth when Cameron Gingerich singled and Bryan Wallman doubled. Teddy Steffel knocked the run in from third on the next at bat when he grounded out to the first baseman.
-Dordt was outhit 9-5 with five different players each getting one hit.
-Wallman’s double was the only extra base hit of the game for Dordt.
-Connor Hopkins pitched five and a third innings and took the loss with four runs allowed on five hits with five strikeouts and four bases on balls.
-Brandon Fokkema worked two and two-third scoreless innings and walked one with one strikeout.
-Dordt stranded four while St. Cloud State left 11 on base and St. Cloud State committed four errors.
