Dordt defeats Mount Marty 12-1

The Dordt Defender men’s soccer team dominated its performance with the Mount Marty Lancers on Wednesday, September 28 in a matinee performance.

The Defenders got a pair of goals by Cody Van Holland in the third and fourth minutes to take control before Alex Durbin scored back to back goals in the fifth and 25th minutes.  Earlier in the contest Durbin assisted on a Van Holland goal.

The shutout was averted when Mount Marty scored on a Dordt own goal in the 36th minute but the Defenders closed the half with a David Lee goal in the 40th minute to go to halftime up 5-1.

The lead grew quickly with Lee and Durbin scoring in the 47th and 52nd minutes.  Goals from Braden Homan, Cody Zonnefeld, Danny Mooers and Jason Seeley (2) made the final 12-1.

Dordt had a 24-3 shots on goal advantage and controlled play with a 13-3 corner kick edge.

Travis Viet was charged with a goal allowed and one save and Logan Ganz played the second half and made two saves.

Durbin’s three goals bring his season total to 14 with two assists.

Homan, Mooers and Zonnefeld all scored their first goals of the season.

Dordt is now 3-6 overall and 1-1 in GPAC play and will be off until Tuesday, October 4 when the Defenders travel to face Briar Cliff in Sioux City.  Mount Marty slides to 0-2 in the GPAC and 2-7 overall.

"It was good to get three early goals in the first five minutes.  Our possession looked good—very good at times and every guy got to play a lot so that makes it a fun day.”
