Hastings defeats Dordt 2-1 in overtime.



The Dordt Defender men’s soccer team stood toe-to-toe with perennial GPAC power Hastings and lost a 2-1 overtime decision on the road in Hastings on Saturday night, September 24.

The game got underway at 7:45 pm and was decided until shortly after 10:00.  Daniel Whitehall scored in the 15th minute off an assist by Marc Tautz and the lead stood to halftime.

Dordt’s Alex Durbin added to his season total with his 11th goal of the year in the 64th minute and the game went to overtime tied 1-1.

In the overtime Hastings put the pressure on right away and fired two shots on goal that Travis Viet saved in the 92nd and 95th minutes before Lucas Venegas scored in the 96th minute with Dordt a man down.  Tautz assisted on the goal for the Broncos.



Dordt was outshot 24-9 and 9-4 on goal.

Viet had seven saves in goal for the Defenders.

Dordt had two shots on goal in the first half and one in the second.

Hastings had seven corner kicks.

Dordt’s Stephen Brinkerhoff was sent off in the 95th minute after being assessed his second yellow card of the game and prompted Dordt to play a man down.  Dordt was charged with three other yellow cards and Hastings was charged with three.

Dordt is 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the league while Hastings is now 1-0 in the GPAC and 9-0 overall.



“We had chances to win and our defense played an outstanding game.  Hastings plays so quick and they are so skilled but we were able to go right with them for 90 minutes.  We gained a ton of confidence moving forward.”
