Missouri Baptist defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-19)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri Baptist was in control most of the match and defeated the Dordt men’s volleyball team 3-0 on Thursday night in Sioux Center.
The Spartans led 8-7 before scoring four in a row and Dordt was never closer than five before falling 25-14.
Set two featured six ties up to 6-6 before Missouri Baptist scored three in a row and later put together a six point run to lead 17-9. Dordt was unable to put together a charge and made it 25-14.
Dordt battled to a 17-16 lead in set three, taking the slim lead on an attack error but the Spartans again had an answer and scored five in a row to lead 21-17. Eric Geels had a kill for the Defenders to stop the run but Missouri Baptist carried the momentum forward and took the 25-19 win.
-Dordt was by Mark Tiemersma’s six kills and Nathan Struyk had five.
-Missouri Baptist hit .426 for the match with 42 kills and eight points on blocks.
-Dordt had 17 kills and was hampered by 23 errors. The Defenders had four points on blocks.
-Geels had ten assists to lead Dordt.
-Missouri Baptist was led by Mico Janicijevic and Chris Flood with ten kills each and Kyle Foley had 26 assists.
-Dordt will host Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday night at 6:00.
-Missouri Baptist is 13-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.
COACH HANSON SAID
“We faced a different type opponent tonight and I liked how we responded in the third set to playing the game regardless of the last points scored. We played smarter as the match continued. Quick learning for us joined with short memories will be important as we prepare for Lindenwood Beliville tomorrow.”
