Culver Stockton defeats Dordt College 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt battled Culverstockton at the Tachikara Invite in Parkville, Missouri but came up on the short end of a 3-0 match, dropping two, two-point sets along the way.
Dordt lost the first set 25-17 and never led in the set.
In set two the Defender battled back from deficits of 14-10 and 16-12 before tying the set at 20-20 on an attack error. Mark Tiemersma put the Defenders up 22-21 but back to back points by Culver Stockton put them in control.
Another Tiemersma kill tied the sscore at 24-24 but a service error by the Defenders put Culver Stockton at set point and they won it on a kill on the next sequence.
Set three was close the entire way with Dordt taking a 21-20 lead on a pair of attack errors. Tiemersma earned a kill to tie the set 23-23 but Culver Stockton won it with a kill and a service ace.
-Dordt hit .287 for the match and Culver Stockton had a kill efficiency of .340.
-Mark Tiemersma led Dordt with 14 kills on 26 attacks with one error.
-Kyle Vander Zee had seven kills and Kapu Mau six for the Defenders.
-Eric Geels led Dordt with 21 assists and he had five digs. Andrew Kotsier led Dordt’s digging with 11 and Austin Lindemulder had 10 assists.
-Culver Stockton had four service aces and both teams scored five points on blocks.
-Dordt is scheduled to play two matches on Saturday against Graceland and Warner.

We looked and played very free which demonstrates that we are catching on to high level concepts against high level opponents. Small mistakes were the difference and they are mistakes we will minimize as our season progresses.”
