Robert Morris defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Highly regarded Robert Morris held off Dordt College in men’s volleyball play at the Loras Invite in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday morning, January 30.
Dordt never led in set one as the Eagles built a 15-7 lead and Dordt go as close as five at 20-15 after a Mark Tiemersma kill. The Eagles then held the Defenders off in set two as they pushed a two point lead at 15-13 up to 20-13 with a 5-0 run that put the set out of reach for the first year varsity program.
The Defenders battled in set three, forcing 11 ties up to 11-11. Back to back points made it 13-11 for the Eagles and a six point run moments later made it 19-13 and Dordt got as close as five before losing 25-16.
-Dordt hit for a .159 kill efficiency and had 19 digs with 31 kills.
-Robert Morris put up a .507 kill efficiency and recorded 23 digs and 42 kills.
-Kyle Vander Zee had nine kills with four digs.
-Mark Tiemersma recorded seven kills and Eric Geels had five kills with 15 assists.
-Austin Lindemulder also had nine kills and Matt Moore had four kills.
-Dordt is 0-3 while Robert Morris improves to 8-2.

“This was our best opponent of the season thus far and we played strong volleyball for the first half of each set. We had some exciting plays throughout this match that show our level of play can be high. We look forward to another match opportunity against Cincinnati Christian.”
