HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College Defender men’s volleyball team dropped its first set as a varsity squad in the Loras Invitational hosted at Dubuque, Iowa on Friday, January 28.
The Defenders dropped set one 25-21 but rebounded to battle in set two, holding a late lead at 20-19 but the Trolls recovered and won the set 26-24. Trinity was in control most of set three and earned the sweep with the 25-20 victory.
-Dordt had 34 kills on 96 total attacks for a .156 kill efficiency.
-Trinity Christian had similar numbers at the net with 35 kills on 100 attacks and compiled a .160 kill efficiency.
-Dordt had a .214 kill efficiency in set one but saw their efficiency in sets two and three drop to .139 and .125.
-Dordt had four points on blocks while Trinity Christian’s total was three.
-both teams had 31 digs.
-there was a significant difference in serving as Trinity Christian had seven service aces and two reception errors. Dordt had 12 service errors and two aces with seven serve reception errors.
-Dordt was led by Mark Tiemersma’s 11 kills while Eric Geels had eight kills and Kyle Vander Zee six with nine digs.
-Geels accounted for 15 assists and three block assists.
-Austin Lindemulder put up 13 assists with seven digs and Andrew Kotsier had 11 digs.
-Dordt is 0-1 while Trinity Christian improves to 1-2.
-Dordt faces Calumet College late Friday afternoon in match two of the day. The Defenders will play two more matches in Dubuque on Saturday.

“We started our season with some bright spots and competitive play. Offensive execution is an area we need to improve as well as ball control. Eric Geels had a strong start for our season in a dual role of setting and attacking.”
