Dordt defeats Dakota Wesleyan 12-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt broke through for seven unanswered runs and beat Dakota Wesleyan in the opener of the GPAC doubleheader on Friday, April 29 in Sioux Center.
Dordt allowed a run in the second inning on a solo homerun but answered with a three run fourth inning with Colton Van Otterloo knocking in one run with a single and Teddy Steffel’s single got two runs across.
After Dordt starter Michael Grady worked a 1-2-3 fourth, the Defenders scored four runs on four hits. Jake Thayer delivered a two-run double with two outs and Van Otterloo slugged a two run homerun.
Wesleyan answered with a run in the fifth inning but Dordt was equal to the challenge in getting three runs across in the sixth inning. Parker Schutt had a run scoring single and Cam Gingerich added a double that scored a run. Schutt scored on a wild pitch.
Taylor Neuroth knocked in a run in the seventh inning and Gingerich had another double that scored a run in the top of the seventh.
-Dordt had a 13-5 hits advantage.
-Gingerich had a pair of doubles to raise his season total to seven and he had two runs batted in and two runs scored.
-Jake Thayer had a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored.
-Colton Van Otterloo was 2-4 with a homerun, his fourth, and a single.
-Steffel had a pair of runs batted in.
-Michael Grady went the distance and allowed two runs on five hits with three bases on balls and five strikeouts and is now 4-5.
