Mount Marty defeats Dordt 10-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mount Marty Lancers used a five run eighth inning to take the suspense out of a game that was 5-3 entering the frame on Monday night in Yankton, South Dakota. The game was a single nine-inning affair and was a non-conference tilt.
Dordt scored in the second inning on a Bryan Wallman homerun. The Lancers answered with two runs on two hits in the third inning.
The Defenders tied it with a run in the fourth inning after Cam Gingerich reached on an error and scored on a Glenn Thompson ground out.
Dordt was unable to maintain the tie with Mount Marty getting a run and Dordt answerd in the sixth with a run on back to back doubles by Teddy Steffel and Thompson.
Tied 3-3, the Lancers scored on in the sixth and another in the seventh and then pulled away with a five run eighth inning.
-Dordt was outhit 10-7.
-Chris Schrieber took the loss while working six innings and gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and one strikeout.
-Austin Fokkema came on in relief and pitched an inning and a third with four runs on three hits and Schyler Kane recorded two outs to end the eighth inning.
-Bryan Wallman had two hits and five other players had one hit each.
-Jake Thayer, Cam Gingerich and Chris O’Conner all had a single.
-Thompson and Steffel recorded doubles and Wallman’s homerun was the other extra base hit.
-Dordt is now 17-23 and is scheduled to travel to Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday, April 28.
