Morningside defeats Dordt 4-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt held a 3-1 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning but Morningside scored three in the home half of the inning to take the sweep 4-3.
Morningside scored a run in the fourth inning but stranded two runners. Dordt answered with a run in the fifth with Colton Van Otterloo reaching on an error to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt move dthe runner up and Parker Schutt singled in Van Otterloo.
Dordt added a run in the seventh inning with Bryan Wallman doubling and Van Otterloo lifted a sacrifice fly to score a run from third base.
Dordt took a 3-1 lead after Jake Thayer singled, stole second base and scored on a Ted Steffel double.
Morningside made it 3-2 with a solo homerun. Morningside was eventually able to load the bases with one out and won on back to back singles.
-Trent Roose had two hits for Dordt while five other players had one hit each.
-Roose pitched seven innings and allowed one run on seven hits and walked one with four strikeouts.
-Cole Samuelson took the loss in relief with three runs allowed on five hits with one base on balls.
-Morningside out hit Dordt 12-7.
-Dordt stranded three and Morningside had 10.
-Jake Thayer recorded his 56th hit of the season, tying the record for most hits in a season by a Dordt player. He ties Craig Broek’s 2000 total.
-Dordt is 4-10 in the GPAC and 16-21 overall. Morningside is 34-11 overall and 10-4 in the GPAC. Dordt will host Mount Marty on Saturday at 1:00 in GPAC play.
