Morningside defeats Dordt 6-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College was unable to overcome a strong Morningside pitching performance in dropping a 6-1 decision to the homestanding Mustangs.
The Mustangs scored four runs in the third inning and tacked on two more in the fifth inning.
Dordt got on the board in the seventh inning when Chris O’Conner walked and Cam Gingerich walked with one out. Trent Roose walked to load the bases. A Bryan Wallman single broke up the Morningside no-hitter and scored a run but a line drive ended the inning and the game.
-Morningside outhit Dordt 6-1.
-Brandon Fokkema pitched three and two-third innings and allowed four runs on four hits and walked one. Fokkema took the loss.
-Tyler Wiedner was one of three relief pitchers for the Defenders and walked three but gave up no runs and no hits.
-Cody Selig was the winning pitcher and went six and a third innings and was charged with a run on no hits but walked nine along the way.
-Lance Spongeberg gave up Dordt’s only hit with one out in the top of the seventh inning.
-Dordt stranded 10 and Morningside left seven on base.
