Briar Cliff defeats Dordt 9-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt never led in dropping game one of their doubleheader with Briar Cliff 9-5. The Chargers took a 4-0 lead after three innings but Dordt answered with three runs on three hits in the top half of the fourth inning. Dordt scored after Jake Thayer singled to start the inning and stole second with one out. An error pushed Thayer to third and after another out Colton Van Otterloo walked. Bryan Wallman than delivered a two run double and scored on Chris O’Conner’s single.
The Chargers built a 7-3 lead with a three run bottom of the fourth and added another run in the fifth inning on a solo homerun.
Dordt got two runs in the sixth after Van Otterloo and Chris Schrieber singled with two outs and eventually scored on an error and a wild pitch.
-Thayer and Van Otterloo each had two hits with Van Otterloo getting two runs across.
-Cam Gingerich, Wallman, Schrieber and O’Conner had Dordt’s other hits.
-Wallman’s double was his 100th hit of his career.
-Dordt was outhit 9-8.
-Connor Hopkins took the loss and was charged with six earned runs out of eight given up. He walked three and struck out six.
-Tyler Wiedner pitched the final two and a third innings and allowed one run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout.
