Mayville State defeats Dordt 10-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mayville State never trailed in taking a 10-5 non-conference decision from Dordt in baseball Tuesday afternoon in Sioux Center.
The Comets scored three runs on three hits in the first inning and tacked on four more in the fourth on the way to what proved to be an insurmountable lead.
Mayville State’s lead grew to 8-0 before Dordt got four in the fifth. Taylor Neuroth scored an unearned run and Jake Thayer had a sacrifice fly in the inning before Glen Thompson knocked in a pair with a two run homerun.
The visitors scored two for insurance in the seventh on three hits and Dordt got one in the home half of the inning with Josh Van Eps knocking in a run with a single to leftfield.
-Dordt was outhit 14-9.
-Van Eps was 3-4 and Thompson was 2-4.
-Christopher O’Connor scored two runs.
-Cole Samuelson took the loss and was charged with three runs on three hits and four walks.
-Andrew Vander Hart pitched in relief and went two innings with five runs given up on four hits Austin Fokkema pitched four and one-third innings with two runs allowed and five strikeouts.
-Dordt is 13-14 and will resume play on Friday when they face Nebraska Wesleyan in GPAC play.
