Doane defeats Dordt 10-8
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt was unable to hold a late lead and lost a 10-8 decision to Doane in game two of their doubleheader in Crete, Nebraska on Friday afternoon. The Tigers made a split of the twinbill.
Doane scored a run in the first but Dordt got three in the top of the second inning. Taylor Neuroth tripled to score Trent Roose and Teddy Steffel and Cam Gingerich singled up the middle to score Neuroth.
Doane got one run back in the fourth inning but Dordt plated three in the fifth. Jake Thayer had a run batted in on a fielder’s choice and Josh Van eps reached on an error that score both Thayer and Colton Van Otterloo.
Trailing 6-2 in the fifth, Doane scored two on a two-run homerun and then took the lead with three in the sixth on three hits.
Trailing 7-6, Dordt got a run batted in on a Bryan Wallman single and Steffel reached on an error that scored Jacob Monsma. Doane took the lead back with a three run eighth inning and lead 10-8 going to the ninth frame.
Dordt got the tying run on base when Colton Van Otterloo singled and Jake Thayer walked but a ground out ended the inning and the game.
-Dordt was outhit 12-11.
-Cam Gingerich was 3-6 at the plate with a run batted in.
-Steffel and Roose both had two hits and Roose reached twice on walks.
-Zach Zylstra went five and a third innings on the mound and was charged with five earned runs out of seven allowed and walked one with two strikeouts.
-Brandon Fokkema allowed one hit in one inning of work.
-Chris Schrieber pitched one and two-third innings with three earned runs allowed on three hits and was charged with the loss.
-Dordt is 13-10 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC. Doane is 16-10 overall and 1-1 in the league. Dordt will face Hastings on Saturday starting at noon in GPAC action.
