Dordt defeats Doane 6-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt used a four run third inning and got a strong pitching performance from three individuals on the way to a 6-3 victory over Doane in GPAC play on Friday afternoon in Crete, Nebraska.
Doane scored first with a run on one hit but Dordt answered with a run in the top of the second on a Chris Schrieber single that scored Connor Leppink.
Doane answered with two runs on three hits in the second to lead 3-1.
The Defenders had an answer with Teddy Steffel doubling in a pair of runs and Connor Leppink added an rbi single as well. Glen Thompson had a ground rule double that got Leppnink in and gave Dordt a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Dordt got a run for cushion when Colton Van Otterloo singled with two outs in the fifth to plate Jacob Monsma.
THE NUMBERS
-Trent Roose got the win to improve to 3-2 this season. He allowed three runs on six hits and walked three with three strikeouts.
-Brandon Fokkema worked a perfect sixth before Cole Samuelson got his sixth save with a pair of strikeouts and a walk while facing four batters in the seventh.
-Dordt had an 11-6 hits advantage.
-Connor Leppink was 2-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Chris Schrieber was was also 2-4 with a run batted in.
-Jake Thayer, Bryan Wallman, Teddy Steffel and Glen Thompson all had doubles for Dordt in the win.
