Dordt defeats Minnesota Morris 8-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt used a fast start and held off the Minnesota Morris Cougars in game two of their doubleheader on Monday, March 28
After a scoreless top of the first Dordt got a double from Cameron Gingerich to start the home half of the inning and Colton Van Otterloo singled. A Jake Thayer single got a run in and Glen Thompson doubled in another run. A Trent Roose ground out added a third run.
Van Otterloo figured in to Dordt’s fourth run when he tripled to start the third inning and Jake Thayer singled him in.
Dordt added a run in the fourth inning to lead 5-0 but Minnesota Morris got two runs on three hits in the top half of the fifth inning.
The Defenders responded to the threat with a three run fifth as Thompson doubled in a run and another run came on an error and a third run was scored on a wild pitch.
A two run sixth inning by the visitors kept it interesting but Dordt closed the door in the seventh inning, ending the game with two runners on base for the Cougars.
-Schyler Kane got the win in a scheduled three inning start and allowed no runs and a walk.
-Michael Grady pitched two innings and gave up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and Zach Zylstra and Cole Samuelson each pitched an inning.
-Both teams had 11 hits. Minnesota Morris committed the games only error.
-Colton Van Otterloo and Jake Thayer each had three hits with Thayer knocking in two runs.
-Glen Thompson had a pair of doubles and two runs batted in.
-Dordt is 12-9 going into a pair of GPAC doubleheaders against Doane and Hastings on Friday and Saturday. Minnesota Morris falls to 5-6.
