Dordt defeats Minnesota Morris 12-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt took the lead with a solo homerun to lead off the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in winning a 12-1 non-conference game over Minnesota Morris on Monday, March 28.
Dordt’s Cameron Gingerich had a solo homerun to lead off the Dordt half of the first inning and added another run when Connor Leppink scored on a wild pitch after reaching on an error in the inning.
The 2-0 lead held as Minnesota Morris stranded a runner in each of the first three innings. Dordt added two runs to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with Andrew Randall singling in two runs. Dordt missed on a bigger inning when it stranded two runners in the frame.
Minnesota Morris averted the shutout with a run on two hits in the sixth inning but the visitors ran into trouble in the sixth inning with Dordt plating eight runs on four hits and two errors in the home half of the inning. Jake Thayer knocked in two runs with a single, Colton Van Otterloo worked for a walk with the bases loaded for another run, Bryan Wallman got credit for an rbi on a fly ball to deep center that scored a run from third Josh Van Eps doubled to clear the bases for three runs batted in.
Cole Samuelson came on to pitch the seventh inning and struck out the side to end the game.
-Dordt outhit the Cougars 13-4.
-Cameron Gingerich was 3-5 with two runs scored.
-Jake Thayer, Josh Van Eps, Andrew Randall all had two hits.
-Van Eps had two doubles and Colton Van Otterloo had a double along with Thayer.
-Chris Schrieber earned the win while going three innings in with two hits allowed and two strikeouts.
-Connor Hopkins pitched two scoreless innings and struck out four with no hits.
-Brandon Fokkema and Cole Samuelson each had an inning pitched.
