Dordt defeats Central Christian 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt came from behind to take game one of its doubleheader with Central Christian (Kansas) on Friday night, March 18, in a game played in McPherson, Kansas.
The Defenders allowed a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo homerun.
Dordt’s chances were limited as the Defenders got a runner in scoring position once in the first five innings of the contest. Jake Thayer led off the sixth inning with a single and advanced all the way to third base on a Cam Gingerich single. A Bryan Wallman sacrifice fly tied the game and Gingerich eventually scored on a throwing error.
A 1-2-3 sixth inning by the hosts allowed Dordt to get back to work on offense. Trent Roose had a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice fly. A Taylor Neuroth single moved Dillon Branderhorst to third. Branderhorst was running for Roose. Jake Thayer then delivered a run scoring single to make it 3-1.
Central Christian got a two out single but the next batter grounded out to end the game.
-Dordt had a 6-3 hits advantage with Jake Thayer going 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in.
-Trent Roose was 2-3 at the plate and Cam Gingerich and Taylor Neuroth accounted for Dordt’s two other hits.
-Zach Zylstra pitched six innings and got the win with two hits allowed and two bases on balls issued with four strikeouts.
-Cole Samuelson recorded the save after pitching a scores seventh and faced four batters.
