Central Methodist defeats Dordt 6-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Central Methodist never trailed Dordt College and held on to win 6-5 in a non-conference game at Tucson, Arizona.
Central Methodist scored two runs on two hits in the second inning and the Missouri based school scored another run in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead.
Dordt broke through with one run in the fifth inning with Jake Thayer pushing a run across with a fielder’s choice. Connor Leppink scored after reaching initially with a base hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball.
Central Methodist answered with a run in the sixth to lead 4-1. Dordt came back with two runs on two hits as Trent Roose singled in two runs to narrow it to 4-3. Two more runs by Central Methodist on four hits in the seventh gave the visitors on the scoreboard a cushion that they would need every bit of.
Dordt’s Cameron Gingerich singled and Glen Thompson doubled him in. Josh Van Eps followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A Jacob Monsma single got Dordt to within one and the Defenders eventually loaded the bases but couldn’t complete the comeback as the final out was recorded on a strikeout.
-Connor Hopkins went the distance and took the loss with seven innings pitched. He struck out eight and walked two and allowed five earned runs on eight hits. Hopkins is 2-2.
-Dordt had a 9-8 hits advantage.
-Cameron Gingerich had three hits and a run scored.
-Jacob Monsma was 2-4 with a run batted in.
-Glen Thompson scored two runs. Thompson’s double was Dordt’s only extra base hit.
