Dordt defeats Winnipeg 16-9
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt scored early and held on to take a 16-9 win over Winnipeg on Monday morning, March 7 in a game played in Tucson, Arizona.
Dordt got three in the first inning three hits. Two of the runs came in on groundouts and Bryan Wallman knocked Jake Thayer across with a single.
Dordt made it 7-0 with another four runs in the second frame. Thayer knocked in a run with a single and Colton Van Otterloo got two other runs in as his ground out was misplayed. The lead grew to 9-0 as Jacob Monsma scored on an error after tripling and Ted Steffel had a sacrifice fly that plated Cam Gingerich.
Winnipeg got on the board with two runs in the fourth and another four in the fifth, sandwiched around Dordt’s three run fifth inning. Dordt added one more in the seventh inning with Winnipeg getting three across in the ninth inning for the final of 16-9.
-Dordt had a 14-9 hits advantage and took advantage of six Winnipeg errors.
-Jake Thayer was 3-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored and Bryan Wallman was 3-5 with two runs scored and three runs batted in for Dordt.
-Cameron Gingerich was 2-5 with three runs scored and joined the Dordt College 100 hit club with his first hit of the day.
-Andrew Randall was 2-3 and Jacob Monsma was 2-4. Monsma had three runs scored.
-Dordt’s Zach Zylstra started the game and struck out two with three walks issued and allowed four hits.
-Tyler Wiedner pitched five innings and allowed five hits and walked eight with four strikeouts in relief of Zylstra.
