Dordt defeats Presentation 6-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt used a four run second inning and then came from behind to win the game in the fifth to take a win over Presentation in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday in Tucson, Arizona.
Josh Van Eps knocked in a run in the second inning with a double and Cam Gingerich got credit for a pair of runs batted in with a double and Jake Thayer accounted for the fourth run with a single.
The Saints answered with five runs on one hit and two errors in the fourth inning but left the bases loaded when the inning ended.
Playing from behind, Dordt tied the game on a Josh Van Eps double and Taylor Neuroth knocked in a run with a grounder that was misplayed into an error and scored Jacob Monsma.
Presentation got the tying run as far as third and had the winning run at first base when Cole Samuelson fanned the final batter.
-Dordt had an 8-4 hits advantage.
-Jake Thayer and Josh Van Eps each had two hits with Gingerich and Van Eps each knocking in two runs.
-Six different Dordt players had runs scored.
-Colton Van Otterloo and Gingerich had Dordt’s only extra base hits, a double each.
-Brandon Fokkema got the win pitching two and a third innings of shutout relief and had one walk issued.
-Cole Samuelson pitched the final inning with one hit allowed and one walk issued.
-Connor Hopkins started the game for Dordt and allowed three earned runs out of five runs scored with six walks and eight strikeouts.
