Jamestown defeats Dordt 82-73
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College led at halftime but was unable to secure a road win in a non-conference decision at Jamestown University (North Dakota) on Friday, November 6.
A tightly contested first half, Dordt led 39-36 after leading by six on two different occasions. Dordt was up 36-30 after Taylor Feenstra made a basket with 1:32 remaining in the half and a three-point shot by Alec Henrickson put the Defenders up 39-33 before settling for the three point halftime lead.
Jamestown came back to tie the game at 43-43 but Dordt was able to push the lead to six at 49-43 on an Andrew O’Donnell free throw. The game wavered between a tie and a six point lead for the next several minutes before Austin Bykerk knocked down a shot with 10:02 remaining for a 63-57 Dordt advantage.
Jamestown responded by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to go up 68-65. Dordt never led again. Dordt cut the lead to 72-71 on a Nathan Rindels basket with 5:24 left but a three-point basket ignited a 7-0 run that Dordt was unable to recover from in falling by the final margin of nine.
THE NUMBERS
-Dordt was 28-65 from the field for 43.1 percent but converted just 3-18 three-point shots and 14-22 fee throws.
-Jamestown was 24-62 from the field and 10-29 from the three-point line and converted 24-30 free throws.
-Dordt had a 46-38 rebounding advantage but committed 20 turnovers to 14 for the hosts.
-Andrew O’Donnell had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Nathan Rindels had 15 points on 7-9 shooting with five rebounds and three assists but played just 23 minutes before fouling out.
-Grant Harkness and Alec Henrickson, a pair of Dordt freshmen, each scored 11 points and Leighton Sampson and Taylro Feenstra both had seven points.
-Logan Brown led Jamestown and all players with 20 points and was 4-6 from the three-point line.
NOTES
-Dordt is 1-1 and will face Valley City State on Saturday at 3:00.
-Jamestown is 3-1 and will play Northwestern on Saturday.
