Dordt defeats Mount Marty 78-57.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College fought through a slow start to defeat the Mount Marty Lancer men’s basketball team in GPAC play on Wednesday night in Sioux Center 78-57. The Defenders scored seven points in a row to lead 7-1 after allowing a free throw to open the scoring but couldn’t shake the stubborn Lancers, holding a 30-20 halftime edge after leading by as many as many as 15 before getting outscored 7-2 over the final two minutes of the first half.
Dordt quickly built the advantage to 45-25 after a basket by Bryan Sumner with 15:29 left in the game and the Lancers never got closer than 15 as Dordt put the game away, building up a 25 point advantage before settling for a 21 point win.
-Dordt converted 32-64 field goals and 11-13 free throws while Mount Marty was 20-48 from the field and Dordt had a 38-24 rebounding advantage.
-Dordt held Mount Marty to 6-21 shooting in the first half.
-The Defenders had four players in double figures with Leighton Sampson scoring 14 on 6-8 shooting and Austin Bykerk had 12 points and five rebounds.
-Dalton Franken and Alec Henrickson each had ten with Franken grabbing six rebounds.
-Nathan Rindle had seven points and six assists and Grant Harkness scored seven and Danny Vos six as did Andrew O’Donnell. O’Donnell also had six rebounds.
-Mount Marty’s Taylor Millay led them with 15 points and six rebounds as a reserve.
COACH DOUMA SAYS
“I thought we defended really well. I was concerned going in. Our guys look at the standings too and I thought we did a good job of respecting the game. I thought we played really hard. I thought we challenged the passes, defended the shot and rebounded really well in the first half.”
