Doane def. Dordt 72-69

The 10 point lead lasted to the 3:46 mark when Dordt made one final charge.  Cassidy Vredevoogd had a lay up to start the run and Mycah Hulst knocked down a shot with 2:15 left after a Doane turnover.  Doane missed on the ensuing possession and Alissa Pollema cut the gap to four with a layup with 1:16 left.  A free throw by Doane made it a five point lead with 16 seconds remaining.  A Paige Engbers basket with six seconds left for Dordt cut the difference to 71-69.  Dordt fouled on the ensuing play and Doane made one of two free throws and Dordt wasn’t able to get a shot off to tie the game.

-Dordt will face Concordia on Friday, December 18 in its final game before the Christmas break.

“I felt like they thought time was running out and we really needed to buckle down and play some defense, get rebounds and take care of the basketball.  I think we changed our mentality in that last stretch.  When she (Mycah Hulst) touches the ball good things happen for us whether she scores or not,” said Dordt College coach Katie DeWitt-Severson.
