The Defenders built a 20-7 first quarter lead and maintained a double digit lead most of the second quarter before going to the halftime break up 33-23.
A pair of Alissa Pollema free throws 2:30 into the second half put Dordt up 40-25. Northwest responded with three straight possessions where they hit three-point shots and quickly narrowed the gap to six in less than 30 seconds. The Eagles eventually tied it 49-49 on a Jordan Asher three-point shot but Paige Engbers answered for Dordt with a three of her own to put the Defenders up 52-49 and the hosts were up 53-52 after the third quarter.
