Set three was a reversal of fortune for the Defenders the Mustangs built a 10-7 lead with a five point run.  Morningside eventually got up 18-12.  Dordt had a four point run to get within 18-16 and the hosts got as close as 24-23 but a Jennifer Buyert kill won the set for the Mustangs 25-23.

Morningside continued to ride the momentum of that win to a 9-3 lead with Jennifer Bergman recording a kill.  The lead was still 14-7 when Dordt began its comeback with a Jenna Horstman kill.  Abby Pollema had an ace and Kiel recorded two kills as the Defenders to within 14-12.  Back to back points by Morningside pushed the lead to 16-12 but Dordt had an answer with an eight point run.  Kiel started the run with back to back kills and Jill Schouten had an ace serve to follow.  The two teams traded points to 21-17 but Morningside got three in a row to cut it to 21-20.  Dordt had a three point run of its own with Altena and Granstra getting back to back kills.  Granstra and Gesink combined for a block to get the Defenders to match point.  Morningside fought off set point to 24-21 but Granstra and Gesink had another block to give Dordt the 25-21 win.

“We just continued playing volleyball and played hard and kept trying and competing.  It was good character building.  We talked to Jamie and reminded her to keep finding those hitters in the different rotations that could produce the kill for us,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.  “Our ball control passers let her do that and Brooke really, really produced.  Elizabeth really came alive in the third and fourth sets and was a stabilizer for us.”
