Dordt defeats Mount Marty 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 on Wednesday, September 16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College Defender never trailed the Mount Marty Lancers in winning their tenth match in a row.
The two teams exchanged points to start set one but the Defenders ripped off five points in a row for a 5-1 lead. The Lancers got back to within 5-4 before Dordt extended the lead out to 18-10 with a Summer Jansen kill finishing the run. Mount Marty got back to within five at 23-18 but the Defenders got a kill from Julia Lindbergh and Jansen had an ace serve to finish the set 25-18.
Set two had Jamie Gesink serve six straight points and Dordt had a 9-1 lead at one point as well before Mount Marty closed the gap to 14-11 with four straight points. Dordt followed with a five point run at to lead 19-11 and the Defenders went on to win 25-16.
The Lancers tied set three 2-2 but the Defenders put together a five point run at 7-2 and were never challenged in taking set three 25-13.
-Dordt hit for a .318 kill efficiency. The Defenders had just five attack errors in the final two sets and hit for a .457 kill efficiency in set three.
-Dordt had eight service aces and Mount Marty had two.
-Haley Moss led Dordt with 11 kills and had a solo block and a block assist.
-Ema Altena and Brooke Granstra had eight kills each. Granstra’s kill efficiency was .533 and she had three ace serves.
-Julia Lindbergh had seven kills and Elizabeth Kiel had six for the Defenders.
-Jamie Gesink put up 33 assists and ten digs for Dordt.
-Summer Jansen had 12 digs and three ace serves.
-Mount Marty got a team high nine digs by Laura Cattle and Amber Dythse had 10 digs.
-Dordt has won 10 matches in a row.
-Dordt leads the series with Mount Marty 28-0 since 1998.
-The Lancers were limited to a .115 kill efficiency.
-Dordt is 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC. Mount Marty is 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC.
COACH HANSON SAYS
“I was so pleased with our group. Coming out I think overall focused, strong, playing our style of volleyball, it was really neat,” said coach Chad Hanson.
“The aggressive serving lends itself to so much more production on the offensive and defensive side for us.”
