Briar Cliff defeated Dordt 1-0 in double overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Briar Cliff scored on a penalty kick in the 107th minute to take a conference win over Dordt 1-0. Christopher Nkoghe scored on a shot to the lower right corner on a penalty kick after Nkoghe was fouled in the box.
-Both teams had good opportunities to score during the contest. Dordt outshot the Chargers on goal 13-11 and overall 22-20.
-Dordt had a goal waved off at halftime that was ruled no good after a short deliberation.
-Nathan Struyk had four shots on goal and Alex Durbin had three shots on goal for the Defenders.
-Nkoghe and Javi Magana each had three shots on goal.
-Dordt’s Jack McCool had 10 saves in goal.
-Briar Cliff’s Jared Belin had 12 saves to preserve the shutout.
-Dordt is 4-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the GPAC and will face Midland on Saturday in Sioux Center.
-Briar Cliff is 2-1 in the GPAC and 5-4 overall.
COACH STIEMSMA SAID
“Tough way to lose,” said Dordt College coach Craig Stiemsma. “Both teams left it all out there. Jack (McCool) and the defense played tremendous. Offensively we did some really good things and had good opportunities.”
