Hastings defeats Dordt 2-0 in men’s soccer.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hastings scored a pair of goals in the 51st and 77th minutes to defeat Dordt College in men’s soccer at Sioux Center on Saturday, September 26.  Hastings’ first goal came in the 51st minute with Murlio Ceruli getting goal through and Damien Austen scored the second goal to effectively put the game out of reach. 

 

NOTES

-Dordt weathered an eight-shot first half by the visitors and had one shot of its own in the first half.

-Hastings outshot Dordt 9-5 in the second half and 17-6 overall. 

-Dordt managed to put four shots on goal.

-Alex Durbin had two shots on goal while VJ Hachaba and Kevin Grootenboer had one shot on goal each.

-Jack McCool had four saves in goal for the Defenders.

-Alex Guyer had four saves for Hastings and recorded the shut out.

-Hastings is 4-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC while Dordt is 0-1 in the league and 3-4 overall.  Dordt will face Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday, September 27 and Concordia on Saturday, October 3 in a pair of road games.

 

COACH STIEMSMA SAYS

"We played very well and had some great opportunities including a penalty kick.  Hastings was able to keep offensive pressure on us. They finally broke through in the second half.  We played well and left it all out there."
