Northwestern defeated Dordt College 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College allowed an early goal and Northwestern played from in front almost the entire game in taking the GPAC contest at Sioux Center on Wednesday afternoon, October 21.
Northwestern scored in the second minute of the game on a Jennifer Inge goal off an assist by Madison Bertman for the early 1-0 lead and Northwestern got a goal for cushion in the 22nd minute when Bertman scored on a breakaway for a 2-0 lead.
Dordt was never able to get a goal to pull Northwestern out of the defensive style they settled into with the two goal lead.
-Dordt was outshot 6-4 on goal.
-Dee Felts had four saves for the Defenders while Naomi Schimmel had four saves to preserve the Northwestern shutout.
-This was the fourth time this season Dordt has been shut out.
-Four Defenders each had one shot on goal—Natalie Sakuma, Anisa Patterson, Dallas Parker and Tori Mann.
-Dordt’s best scoring opportunities in the second half came on a shot by Sakuma inside the box that Schimmel made a leaping save on and a header by Kenzie Bousema that was over the goal.
-Dordt is 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the league and will face Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday in the Defenders’ final regular season home contest of the year.
-Northwestern is 4-2-2 in the league and 7-5-3 overall.

"The early goal put Dordt on its heels and we struggled to find an effective attack," said Dordt College coach Bill Elgersma.
