Dordt defeats Graceland 4-3 in double overtime on Saturday, September 5 as part of the Pizza Ranch Classic.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Natalie Sakuma scored in the 109th minute of the game to give Dordt its second win of the season.  Dordt overcame a two goal deficit to lead briefly and then had to survive a couple threats by Graceland in the extra sessions.

The Yellow Jackets scored in the 19th and 23rd minutes on goals by Olivia St. Claire and Beth Koutsouridis. 

Tori Mann got the Defenders going with goals in the 28th and 41st minutes to tie the game.  The first was off a Sakuma assist. The sophomore from Washington then assisted Kenzie Bousema in the 62nd minute as Dordt took a 3-2 lead.

The lead was short lived as Graceland got another goal from Koutsouridis to knot it. 

After a scoreless first overtime the game looked destined for a tie until Sakuma scored with just over a minute remaining to give Dordt the 4-3 win.

 

NUMBERS

-Dordt had a 21-12 shots advantage and a 15-10 shots on goal edge.

-Tori Mann had four shots on goal.

-Bousema has five goals this season.

-Mann's two goals were first of the season.

-Sakuma had three assists this weekend in her first play of the 2015 schedule.

-Dordt's Dee Felts recorded seven saves including two in double overtime before the game winner came.

-Graceland got 11 saves from starter keeper Miranda Hunzeker.

 

NEXT

The Defender women will take a 2-2 record to Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa on Wednesday, September 9.  Graceland slips to 2-3.
