Dordt/Northwestern Pizza Ranch Classic
Bellevue defeats Dordt 4-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
A hat trick by Dordt College freshman Kenzie Bousema wasn't enough for the Defenders to knock off no. 16 Bellevue in non-conference women's soccer Friday, September 4 at the Pizza Ranch Classic.
Bousema scored in the sixth and 10th minute to start the scoring. The first goal came as Bousema shot it to the bottom left corner and her second came off an assist by Natalie Sakuma. Sakuma was seeing her first action of the season after being limited by an injury in the first two weeks.
Bellevue scored in the 29th minute on an unassisted goal by Michelle Dolder and Kate Peterson evened the scoring in the 44th minute on a penalty kick.
Bousema gave Dordt a brief lead in the 56th minute with a goal off a deflection but Bellevue had and answer with Betsy Fishenich scoring less than a minute later with a chip shot over Dordt goalkeeper Dee Felts.
The two teams played even until the 81st minute when Aubriana Batchelor scored off a header with Kylie Taylor getting the assist. The game winner started with a penalty kick by the Bruins that Dordt was unable to clear.
-Dordt was outshot 24-11 overall and 19-6 on goal.
-Felts made 15 saves in goal for the Defenders while Bailey Petzoldt had three saves for the Bruins and did not record a save in the first half.
-Bellevue had several chances, evidenced by their 7-1 corner kick advantage.
-Bousema has now scored four goals for the Defenders.
-Dordt takes a 1-2 record into a game with Graceland on Saturday while Bellevue travels to Northwestern.
