How it Happened

The Dordt College Defender women’s soccer team took a 2-0 loss in the season opener on Saturday, August 21, in Sioux Center, Iowa to Trinity Christian (Illinois). 

The Trolls broke through with a goal by Jessica Bianchi in the 53rd minute off an assist by Deirdre Bia to break the deadlock.  Down 1-0, the Defenders were forced to take chances late and Trinity took advantage for a goal in the final minute of regulation by Cassidy Bosselaar.  Bianchi had the assist for the Trolls who were also playing their season opener. 


-Dordt controlled much play but didn’t take advantage of its opportunities with a 16-7 shots advantage and the Defenders also had nine corner kicks to three for the Trolls.

-Liz Schutte had nine saves for the Trolls and Dee Felts had three saves for Dordt.

-Dordt’s Anisa Patterson had five shots, three on goal.  Tori Mann had four shots for the Defenders and two shots on goals.

-The last time Dordt lost to Trinity Christian the Defenders responded with 18 straight wins and a NAIA National Tournament berth in 2008.

-Jessica Bianchi had a goal and an assist for Trinity Christian.


-Both teams will play Waldorf (Iowa) in their next outing.  Dordt faces the Warriors on Saturday, August 29.  Trinity will play Waldorf on Saturday, August 22 before returning to Chicago.
