SCORE

Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Dordt 27-14

HOW IT HAPPENED

Nebraska Wesleyan scored 17 straight points to overtake Dordt College in GPAC football on Saturday, October 17 in Lincoln.

Wesleyan scored first with a field goal with 11:10 left to cap a 12 play, 59 yard drive.

The Defenders answered immediately with a six play, 80 yard drive and ended it with a Taylan Seaman 11 yard touchdown run to make the score 7-3 going to halftime.  Xavier Caffee had a 54 yard run to start the drive.

Dordt missed an opportunity earlier in the half when the Defenders moved the ball to the Wesleyan 15 yard line but a penalty on the first down play put the ball at the 30 and Dordt was unable to get close enough for a field goal attempt, eventually settling for a pass attempt on a fake field goal that came up short.

Wesleyan took the opening possession of the second half and scored on a running back pass for 31 yards.  The point after was good and Dordt trailed 10-7.

Dordt embarked on a drive that started at the 11:48 mark of the third.  22 plays later the Defenders got the touchdown on a Caffee one yard run with 14:56 left in the game.  Loken Vande Vegte had 13 carries on the drive.

Wesleyan employed its second trick play of the game on the next drive with a backward pass to Ryan Larsen near the sideline and he promptly found Bryce Darner racing to the end zone for a 32 yard pass.

Trailing 17-14 Dordt moved from its own 25 to the Nebraska Wesleyan 41 but a fumble on a pitch play recovered by Wesleyan put the Defenders in a bad position.  Wesleyan made it a two score game with a 48 yard drive and a field goal with 2:49 after the Defenders turned it over on downs made got to the final of 27-14.
